Cox s bazar is the longest sea beach in the world. It is famous mostly for its long natural sandy beach, and it is infamous for the largest refugee camp in the world. It is located 150 km (93 mi) south of the divisional headquarter city of Chittagong. Cox s Bazar is also known by the name Panowa, which translates literally as yellow flower . He commanded his forces to camp there. His retinue of one thousand palanquins stopped there for some time.
A place named Dulahazara, meaning one thousand palanquins, still exists in the area. After the Mughals, the place came under the control of the Tipras and the Arakanese, followed by the Portuguese and then the British. The modern Cox s Bazar derives its name from Captain Hiram Cox, an officer of the British East India Company, a Superintendent of Palongkee outpost. To commemorate his role in refugee rehabilitation work, a market was established and named after him. After the end of British rule in 1947, Cox s Bazar became part of East Pakistan.
Captain Advocate Fazlul Karim, the first post-independence chairman of Cox s Bazar Municipality, established the Tamarisk Forest along the beach. He wanted to attract tourists as well as to protect the beach from tsunamis. He donated much of his father-in-law s and his own lands as sites for constructing a public library and a town hall. Karim was inspired to build Cox s Bazar as a tourist spot after seeing beaches of Bombay and Karachi. The beach in Cox s Bazar has a gentle slope and with an unbroken length of 155 km (96 mi) it is often termed the longest natural unbroken sea beach in the world.
A spot named Dulahazara, signifying 1,000 carts, actually exists nearby. After the Mughals, the spot went under the control of the Tipras and the Arakanese, trailed by the Portuguese and afterward the British. The word super might be a stretch to describe Hrithik Roshan’s new film Super 30, even if it does chronicle the inspiring true story of Anand Kumar, the mathematician and educationist from Bihar who has helped hundreds of poor students crack the rigorous IIT entrance exams. It’s a remarkable achievement – Anand Kumar’s commitment to ensure that education does not remain the exclusive privilege of those with deep pockets – and it’s one that deserves to be celebrated. But director Vikas Bahl and writer Sanjeev Dutta don’t seem convinced about the inherent dramatic potential of their protagonist’s story, choosing therefore to exaggerate details, omit crucial facts, and dial up the melodrama in order to raise the stakes. Hrithik, who looks nothing like the real Anand Kumar, is slathered with brown face and body paint, thus reinforcing the embarrassing Bollywood stereotype of the dark-skinned ‘poor Indian’. The actor nevertheless imbues the character, especially in the film’s early bits, with charming innocence. We first meet him as a young math genius, the son of a humble postman in Patna, who lands then loses a scholarship to Cambridge because his family can’t afford to send him to England. In one of the film’s most heartbreaking scenes, Anand desperately appeals to an unscrupulous minister to make good on his promise for financial support. There are plenty bleeding-heart moments including one in which his Cambridge acceptance letter becomes wrapping paper for the papad that he must sell door to door after tragedy befalls the family. Things look up temporarily when he is recruited as a teacher by Lallan Singh (Aditya Srivastava) to train students at his fancy-schmancy coaching institute. The bulk of the film, however, details Anand’s struggle to set up his own centre to provide free of cost coaching to 30 promising but underprivileged students who can’t afford expensive tuition. Kaptai Lake is the largest lake in Bangladesh. It is located in the Kaptai Upazila under Rangamati District of Chittagong Division. The reservoir was created by damming the river KARNAFULI near KAPTAI town in the CHITTAGONG HILL TRACTS (Latitude 22°09 N and Longitude 92°17 E). The lake is confined within the hill district RANGAMATI and embraces the upazilas of Rangamati Sadar, Kaptai, Nannerchar, Langadu, Baghaichhari, Barkal, Juraichhari and Belaichhari. The H -shaped Kaptai Lake has two arms, joined by a narrow gorge near Shubalong, a part of the old Karnafuli river. Kasalong, the right arm of the lake, is fed by two streams, the Mayni and the KASALONG, in the north and laterally by the Karnafuli.
The left arm, Rangamati-Kaptai is fed by two streams, the Chengi in the north and the RINKHYONG in the south. The Karnafuli forms three prominent loops one at Rangamati, one at Dhuliachhari and the other at Kaptai. The Rangamati and the Dhuliachhari loops are now under the reservoir of the earth-filled DAM. The Kaptai Lake has drowned almost the whole of the middle-Karnafuli valley and the lower reaches of the Chengi, Kasalong and Rinkhyong rivers.
The shoreline and the basin of Kaptai Lake are very irregular. By the early 1990s, in its 30-year existence, it had already lost about 25% of its volume due to siltation.
